Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
What is the purpose of the site?
The site is designed for university and college students, but the content is edited interactively by the students, not by us. The site is to rate professors freely and for students to contact each other, share their experiences and opinions.
Why is this site good for students?
The site helps students find out who the really good teachers are and who to avoid if possible.
Why is this site good for teachers?
Teachers can get relevant feedback on their work, which can greatly contribute to their professional development.
How much does it cost to use the site?
The site is completely free to use.
Do I have to give my name and contact details? I don't want any inconveniences at university.
Providing personal data is not mandatory. You do not need to provide any personal data to use basic functions, such as teacher evaluation. For some functions, such as the ability to edit your previous ratings or claim a teacher profile, registration is required.
Do we disclose your personal data to third parties?
Not without your consent.
Do I need to register to use the site?
No registration is required to use the main features. You can freely rate your teachers without it. However, a registered user's review is always more credible than a non-registered one, and registered users can keep track of their sumbitted ratings.
How is the site received by teachers?
It's up to the teachers. Many teachers don't like to receive feedback, but many teachers really like it because it allows them to pay more attention to students' opinions and share more relevant and better quality material with their students. However, it is important to note that the site was not created to attack teachers personally, to insult them or to make unfair criticisms. For this reason any criticisms that appear on the site are constantly moderated.
Aren't students just using the site to bash their teachers?
General experience shows that it does not. The majority of comments are positive, even though a negative opinion is more likely to be expressed by a student than a positive one.
How to use MarkMyProfessor.com?
On the main page you can search for your school by clicking on the link, from the list of teachers you can choose who you want to assess. If you can't find the teacher you are looking for, you can register and then rate them. You can also search directly for the teacher on the main page by entering their name.
What are the guidelines for evaluation?
You can read about the guidelines in the Evaluation Guidelines.
What do the grades mean? Why are the requirements and the usefulness of the subject included?
Each category is graded from 1 to 5, with 5 being the best. Only helpfulness, preparation and presentation are included in the average, not the ability to meet the requirements or the usefulness of the subject.
Some of my comments have been deleted. What comments are acceptable?
Comments on teachers' evaluations are constantly monitored by our colleagues, and criticisms that do not comply with our guidelines are filtered out. Any obscene, offensive, abusive, racist or inappropriate reported comments are deleted, helping to maintain a civilised tone between teachers and their students.
What if I think an assessment has not been checked by the administrator?
Sometimes an unsatisfactory assessment may slip through the cracks, despite our best efforts to avoid it. You can use the "report" function to let us know if you think the assessment should be checked. Comments are filtered on an ongoing basis to ensure that offensive, racist or disrespectful comments do not appear.
What should I do if there is a mistake or a clerical error in a teacher's data?
Send an email to the administrator to see what the problem might be and we'll sort it out.
What is this 'sexy' vote I see in some comments?
Before our site got revamped in 2023, students could vote if a teacher was sexy or not, then once enough votes were cast, an image of a bra would appear next to the teacher's name. As we believe that this is now inappropriate, we have removed the feature, but you can see older comments referencing it.
How long will it take for my assessment to appear?
Normally immediately. If the site is busy, there may be a slight delay. If you experience a delay of more than 24 hours, please report it to the administrator.
Are the average classifications statistically valid?
The opinions and perceptions of your fellow students are reflected in your grades, so results should be assessed in this light. However, a large number of evaluations already tend to give a true picture, taking all errors into account.
I am a teacher, but I no longer teach, how can I delete myself?

If you request the deletion of your data as a teacher, you have the right to do so if your teaching status has been terminated. Please notify our Company of such requests by e-mail to the e-mail address of our company (markmyprofessor@weborigo.eu) or by post (3527 Miskolc, Pozsonyi utca 74.) Requests for cancellation will be processed within 15 working days. Requests for cancellation will be accepted if there is credible personal evidence of the person requesting cancellation.

How is the top 10 list determined?
Teacher evaluations are weighted 3 years back and count towards the school's evaluation in such a way that more recent evaluations are given more weight. To be included in the list, a teacher must have at least 10 evaluations. The weighting rules are as follows: 1 rated year is scored at 100%, In case of 2 assessed years, the 1st and 2nd years are assessed at a ratio of 60% / 40%, for 2 assessed years, if there was no assessment in the last year, years 2 and 3 are assessed at 60% / 40%, for 2 assessed years, if there has been no assessment two years ago, years 1 and 3 will be assessed at 70% / 30%, for 3 assessed years, years 1, 2 and 3 are assessed at 45% / 35% / 20%. The top 10 list is continuously updated and is automatically calculated by taking the average of three evaluation criteria over the last 3 years. The three criteria are: helpfulness, preparedness and presentation.
I tried to evaluate my teacher, but there is no button. What does that mean?
If we experience unusual rating activity (e.g. a lot of people rate the same way, or very negatively or positively within a short time interval), we might disable the rating function for a short period of time. In this case, only registered users, or nobody can rate.
